Many of those practicing Scrum mistakenly call the Sprint Review a Demo. Is it just a matter of terminology?
From my point of view, the Sprint Review is the most under estimated Scrum Event, and for many companies, its potential is yet to be revealed. It is true that the Demonstration or Demo is an essential part of the Sprint Review, but it is much more than just a demo! Why?
- The sprint demo (or sprint review? as some people use it interchangeable!) it is an important part of Scrum that tends to be under-estimated
- The formal name of the meeting in the Scrum Guide is the “sprint review”, and that’s a much better term. Why? Sprint Demo implies a one-way communication, i.e. “here you go, this is what we built”
- Sprint review is all about feedback! so it implies a two-way communication, i.e. “here’s what we built, what do you think?”
So we should call it Sprint Review instead of Sprint Demo.
